Row Together

(view video below)

As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now."

How much do you embrace humanity?  We are living through unprecedented times and our interconnectedness is undeniable. A virus that started in a remote area in Asia has spread to the far corners of the globe. A brutal murder of an African American man in Minneapolis has reawakened the world to racial injustice. The forced lockdown of humans has given a breather for our planet with decades of smog lifting in places like Mumbai. Many countries that were already debating if and how to integrate refugees and immigrants have closed their borders to control the pandemic. How we reopen and respond to the myriad of challenges ahead will reveal our humanity. We are one human race renting space on this grand planet Earth. Despite physical or cultural variations, as humans we are genetically similar. In fact, scientists conclude from DNA analysis that all humans are 99.9% identical. The sages from many traditions emphasize our interconnectedness–that we are all expressions of a Greater Intelligence, drops in a vast cosmic ocean. Instead of fighting the waves looking for differences, let’s row together. Move in the direction of peace by being compassionate in your interactions and mindful of our shared resources. Actively look for ways to turn what appears to be diversity into unity and understanding. Let’s not wait for things to get worse or the next tragedy to recognize and demonstrate our humanity. Seek common ground. Strive to create a world where every member of our collective family can thrive and live fulfilled lives.

CENTERING THOUGHT

I embrace humanity.

YOUR CALL TO ACTION

Your call to action this week is to embrace humanity. Ask yourself: How can I show up in the fullness of my humanity? Notice any situations where you feel a sense of separateness – me, you, them. How can you bridge that divide? This entire week, seek opportunities to be open and compassionate. Maybe there is someone who has a different ideology or belief system than you. In what ways can you acknowledge the humanity in that person even though you may disagree on key issues? That's your practice this week. Let Dr. King’s words seep into your being: “We may have all come on different ships but we’re in the same boat now.” Let me know how it goes by commenting here on YouTube (or using Facebook comments at the bottom of the page). I'll check in at the end of the week to see how you did. Until next time, remember – it’s your divine life, live it to the fullest. The power is in your hands!

With Purpose & Power,

Terri
