As Aristotle Onassis said, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”
How do you face immense sadness? The fires raging in Los Angeles are absolutely devastating, turning “The City of Angels” into a hellscape. Those on the ground are grappling with the tragic loss of their homes, entire communities, and at least twenty precious lives. The rest of us outside of the danger zone are simply stunned. Those of us with family and friends in the mayhem have been glued to the news and our phones, sending a flurry of texts to see if loved ones are okay. Once again, it is a reminder of how life can change in an instant.

No matter how dark things may seem, know that light will eventually break through.
There is really nothing anyone can say to help after such a traumatic loss. We can just hold space for those who are suffering, offer assistance, donate resources, and send prayers. No one wants to hear that they should be glad or grateful that they made it out alive… even if they do feel that way. The shock, depression, anger, and grief are real. For those directly affected, the best thing to do is to feel the feelings instead of being paralyzed by them. Cry, scream, be angry or sad–whatever you need to do. Take some deep breaths to slow the body’s response to anxiety. Even pausing for a moment can bring calm in the midst of chaos. Lean on your support system, if you can. Then, when you’re ready, call on your angel (whatever you see as a Higher Power) to help you see bits of light. At some point, the pain will ease, and the strength of the human spirit will shine through the clouds.
Until next time, remember–it’s your divine life, live it to the fullest. The power is in your hands!
With Purpose & Power,
Terri
