As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.”
How much do you embrace humanity? We are living through unprecedented times and our interconnectedness is undeniable despite our divided politics. A polarizing former U.S. President has become President again. A series of wildfires turned the City of Angels into a hellscape affecting celebrities and the regular person alike. A virus that started in a remote area in Asia spread to the far corners of the globe. A brutal murder of an African American man in Minneapolis reawakened the world to racial injustice. The forced lockdown of humans gave a breather for our planet with decades of smog lifting in places like Mumbai. We are one human race renting space on this grand planet Earth. How we respond to our myriad of challenges reveals our humanity.

Instead of fighting the waves looking for differences, let’s row together.
Despite physical or cultural variations, as humans we are genetically similar. In fact, scientists conclude from DNA analysis that all humans are 99.9% identical. The sages from many traditions emphasize our interconnectedness–that we are all expressions of a Greater Intelligence, drops in a vast cosmic ocean. Move in the direction of peace by being compassionate in your interactions and mindful of our shared resources. Actively look for ways to turn what appears to be diversity into unity and understanding. Keep the faith in our Higher Selves. Let’s not wait for things to get worse or the next tragedy to recognize and demonstrate our humanity. Seek common ground. Strive to create a world where every member of our collective family can thrive and live fulfilled lives.
CENTERING THOUGHT
I embrace humanity.
YOUR CALL TO ACTION
Your call to action this week is to embrace humanity. Ask yourself: “How can I show up in the fullness of my humanity?” Notice any situations where you feel a sense of separateness –- me, you, them. How can you bridge that divide? This entire week, seek opportunities to be open and compassionate. Maybe there is someone who has a different ideology or belief system than you. In what ways can you acknowledge the humanity in that person even though you may disagree on key issues? That’s your practice this week. Let me know how it goes by commenting below.
Until next time, remember, it’s your divine life. Live it to the fullest. The power is in your hands!
With Purpose & Power,
Terri
